Magnificent steam ship travels up river for new family friendly cruise

Steam ship Daniel Adamson, or The Danny, set sail for a new cruise on the River Weaver last weekend.

The family friendly cruise has been jointly launched by the Inland Waterways Association (IWA) and the team at The Danny.

The IWA held its annual north west regional social and presentation event on the promenade deck an hour before the public arrived.

When the public boarded at 2pm on Saturday, the vessel travelled down towards Manchester Ship Canal and turned near Marsh Lock.

The Danny then returned under the M56 and Warrington to Chester railway viaduct, where it was witnessed by car and lorry drivers.

The hour-and-a-half trip cost £25 and was developed with children in mind, making it just short enough for the attention spans of youngsters.

A total of 74 passengers were onboard the cruise.

“Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day, our arrangements worked like clockwork, children were well behaved and the volunteers most helpful,” said Jim Forkin, chairman of IWA Chester and Merseyside.

“It is certainly something we would like to do again.”
