Maine’s first in-person sports betting bar opens in Portland

PORTLAND (WGME) – Maine’s first, in-person sports-betting bar is officially open.

“Oddfellahs” opened on Market Street on Friday.

For those familiar with the Old Port over the years, it’s where “The Big Easy” used to be.

The bar has partnered with Caesars Sportsbook, one of two sportsbooks authorized under Maine’s new law to run sports betting, the other being DraftKings.

The founder of “Oddfellahs” says there’s more to the bar than just sports betting.

“Set aside the betting, Portland hasn’t really had a fully dedicated sports bar. There are some great places to watch sports in Portland but having something that’s fully dedicated to watching games is something I think the city is missing and hopefully, people take advantage of it,” said founder Michael Cianchette.

Cianchette says getting “Oddfellahs” up and running was a very long and thorough process with the state’s gambling board, but he wanted to get it right.

Portland Mayor Mark Dion placed the ceremonial first bet.
