Mainz will be looking for their first win in five when they host Dortmund at the Mewa Arena on Saturday. But it won’t be easy as BVB are on song after back-to-back wins.

Mainz vs Borussia Dortmund predictions
Mainz FC have 10 points from nine Bundesliga matches. They sit 13th in the table with two wins, four draws and three defeats. They have a goal difference of -1, having scored 12 and conceded 13.
Managed by Bo Henriksen, who took over from the dismissed Jan Siewert in February, Mainz have struggled so far in the Bundesliga this season.
Henriksen does have plenty of credit in the bank, though. When he took over last season, Mainz were second from bottom and in real danger of being relegated.
An 8-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on matchday 25 on March 9th must have been the day when Die Nullfünfer fans thought the game was up. But little did they know it was the catalyst to an extraordinary run that would see them stay up.
After the Munich humbling, Mainz went on a nine-match unbeaten run, winning five and drawing four.
The 19-point haul saw them eventually finish in 13th place. That left them eight points clear of the drop zone, but only two clear of the relegation playoff place.
Any hope that Bo Henriksen’s team could take that form into this season were quickly dashed with a three-match winless start to the current campaign.
Die Nullfünfer had to wait until matchday 4 for their first win, a 3-2 win on the road against Augsburg. Only one more win has followed. That was a 3-0 win away to St. Pauli on matchday 6.
Since that last taste of victory, Mainz are four without a win in all competitions.
Borussia Dortmund’s season was in danger of imploading. That was until a great fightback saw them overturn a 1-0 deficit and beat RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga last Saturday.
Goals from Maximilian Beier (30 mins) and Serhou Guirassy (65) saw them complete a 2-1 win over their bitter Bundesliga rivals – a rivalry that has somewhat intensified in recent weeks with former Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp’s new role with the Red Bull organisation.
The three points saw Nuri Sahin’s team move up to fifth place in the Bundesliga table on 16 points. They sit level on points with fourth-place Leverkusen and sixth-place Freiburg. But are already seven adrift of leaders Bayern and four behind Leipzig in second.
The win was a huge result for Sahin who has been coming under pressure after stepping up from his assistant manager role to replace Edin Terzic who left the club in June.
Dortmund backed that win up with a 1-0 win over Sturm Graz in the Champions League on Wednesday. But it was a far from convincing performance.
Three points against Mainz on Saturday will go a long way to calming the nerves as we go into the November international break.
Mainz vs Borussia Dortmund betting tips
Mainz beat Dortmund 3-0 in the corresponding fixture last season. That win came during the hosts nine-match unbeaten run in their final home fixture of the season.
But things were very different then, and Mainz look like they are going to struggle again this season, although they should be safe from automatic relegation.
Dortmund will want revenge for the 3-0 reversal last season, and we can see them getting it against a Mainz team with only two points from five home matches this term. Our match betting tips are below:
Dortmund to win
Despite Dortmund having struggled of late, the fact remains that Mainz has been awful in front of their home fans this season.
The hosts did secure a point with a credible 0-0 draw away to Freiburg last Sunday. But backing up good performances has been a huge problem for them this season.

After they defeated St. Pauli 3-0 for their second win of the season on matchday 6, they lost 2-0 at home to RB Leipzig on matchday 7. Mainz then held Borussia Monchengladbach to a 1-1 draw at the Mewa Arena, only to be thrashed 4-0 by Bayern in the second round of the DFB-Pokal five days later.
Inconsistency is their biggest crime in recent weeks. The draw is 13/5 and it is tempting. But if the same Dortmund that took the game to Leipzig in the second half last week turns up, the away side should have too much for the hosts.
That makes a bet on Dortmund at odds against worth the risk.

Under 2.5 goals
One thing that Bo Henriksen has done in recent weeks is tighten up the Mainz defence. Well, at least in the Bundesliga, he has.
Mainz has only conceded three goals in their last four league games. And this run includes two shutouts against St. Pauli and Freiburg.
There is a large home cup defeat against Bayern in that run of matches, but we can forgive the hosts for that, Bayern have put many domestic rivals to the sword this season.
Dortmund haven’t been full of goals either in recent weeks. Their four most recent Bundesliga matches have all finished 2-1 either way. But in their last four matches in all competitions, the Black and Yellow have only scored four times.
⚽ Back under 2.5 goals at 13/10 with Midnite ⚽
Serhou Guirassy to score anytime
In what at times has been a bleak season for Nuri Sahin and Dortmund, Serhou Guirassy has been a shining light.
The summer arrival from Stuttgart has picked up from where he left off last season. He found the net 28 times in 28 Bundesliga matches in the 2023/24 campaign for Die Schwaben, only Harry Kane scored more.
In the current season Guirassy has scored five goals in seven in the Bundesliga and three goals in four Champions League matches.
He missed the start of the season with injury, and you have to wonder if Dortmund would have struggled as much as they have if he had been fit from the beginning of the campaign.
Guirassy scored the winner against Leipzig last Saturday and is worth backing to continue his good run of form.
