Man Utd vs Barnsley preview
2022-23 winners of the Carabao Cup Manchester United enter the competition against League One Barnsley on Tuesday evening.
The Red Devils have joined in the third round due to their participation in the Europa League, which kick starts against Dutch opponents Twente next Wednesday.
Erik ten Hag will have been extremely relieved to have secured maximum points against Southampton over the weekend.
Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were all on the scoresheet as United recovered from successive defeats to Brighton and Liverpool.
United were good value for their win overall, but a penalty save by Andre Onana from Cameron Archer proved the turning point for the visitors.
The Red Devils will be hopeful of a much more straightforward victory over League One Barnsley, who suffered a 3-0 defeat to Stevenage over the weekend.
However, Darrell Clarke’s side have made a strong enough start to the 2024/25 season, and conquered Wigan and Sheffield United to reach this stage.

Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt all left the field at St Mary’s but De Ligt confirmed in his post-match interview that his issue seemed to just be cramp.

Man Utd vs Barnsley betting tips and predictions
Alejandro
Alejandro Garnacho should be eager to make a point having been benched against Southampton on Saturday.
The 20-year-old has only started ONE of United’s four Premier League matches this season, but that’s still been enough to see him register a goal and an assist.
He’s also pretty handy in domestic cup competitions having scored 12 in 28 appearances for United’s senior and youth side.
- Alejandro Garnacho to score at 6/4 with William Hill – CLAIM HERE
Amad
Will have to check on the team news for this selection, but there looks to be a good chance for Amad Diallo to provide an assist on Tuesday – if he features.
The 22-year-old provided an assist against Southampton over the weekend, and has created a total of 10 chances for his colleagues this season – double that of any United player.
He’s also had 23 touches in the opposition penalty area which, again, is seven more than any of his teammates.
- Amad Diallo to provide an assist at 7/2 with William Hill – CLAIM HERE
