Manchester City vs Feyenoord predictions

Pep Guardiola is in uncharted territory. Until Manchester City lost 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion immediately prior to the international break, Guardiola had never lost four consecutive games in his managerial career.

Make that five. City were unable to break out of their slump on Saturday, as they were humbled by Tottenham Hotspur. In fact, that 4-0 home defeat was the worst of the lot.

“In eight years we have never lived this kind of situation,” Guardiola told BBC Radio after watching Spurs put his team to the sword in emphatic fashion.

“Now we have to live it and break it by winning the next games, especially the next one. Now we see things in one way, maybe in a few weeks we see it differently.

“In this moment, we are fragile defensively. We started really well as normal but we could not score and then after that we conceded. After that we conceded some more which is difficult for our emotions right now.”

There has already been talk of a make-or-break tussle with Liverpool at the weekend, but before that City have the chance to start rebuilding some confidence when Feyenoord head to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

The problem is, City are not firing at all right now, so nothing can be taken for granted.

The Premier League champions are dearly missing Rodri in the centre of the park. He gives structure to their possession play and is a key component of their structure off the ball too.

But that is not City’s only problem. Some key players are out of form, most notably Phil Foden. Kevin De Bruyne is increasingly prone to injury. Ilkay Gungodan looks like a shadow of his former self. Erling Haaland is not finishing with his usual accuracy, and no one else is stepping up to ease the goalscoring burden on the Norway international.

There is still a long way to go this season and no one would really be surprised if City were to end up lifting one or two major trophies next spring. Guardiola signed a new contract last week, so that is at least one less thing to worry about.

Yet anyone who has watched City over the last month or so knows that something is wrong. Guardiola will be desperate to arrest his team’s slide as soon as possible.

Manchester City vs Feyenoord betting tips

Manchester City will be looking to get their season back on track when they face Feyenoord.

Feyenoord or draw

Even in their current slump, Manchester City deserve to be strong favourites to beat Feyenoord on Tuesday. In our view, a home victory is still more likely than a draw or an away win.

Yet sports betting is all about finding value and the double chance market seems to provide that.

Feyenoord have had a mixed time in the Champions League this term, losing to Bayer Leverkusen and Red Bull Salzburg while beating Girona and Benfica.

Their two wins both came away from home, while they are also unbeaten on the road in the Eredivisie under Brian Priske, Arne Slot’s successor.

It is obvious that City have a better set of players to call upon, but Feyenoord could frustrate them on matchday five.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals

There is a gaping Rodri-shaped hole in the Manchester City midfield right now, and Guardiola’s side are consequently struggling to stop opponents playing through them.

Tottenham are not the first team to have rampaged through the centre of the park against City of late. Brighton, Sporting CP and Bournemouth all did something similar.

Feyenoord should get chances via the same method. They will have a minority of possession but the Dutch team can cause problems in transition.

Given his team’s present brittleness, Guardiola could decide that attack is the best form of defence. That sort of approach would contribute to an entertaining encounter at the Etihad.

Kevin De Bruyne to score any time

De Bruyne has had a stop-start opening to the campaign due to injury, but he came off the bench against Tottenham on Saturday.

His entrance in the 74th minute came too late for the Belgian to turn the game around, but he did look lively in the final quarter of an hour.

With that crunch clash with Liverpool coming up, Guardiola will want De Bruyne to get some more minutes under his belt against Feyenoord.

The attacking midfielder is one of those players who can grab a game by the scruff of its neck. That is precisely what Manchester City need right now.
