The 2024 Olympic Games have been most popular in Paris, and men’s basketball has been drawing the most watch and wager action since group play tipped off July 27. The heavily favored USA team moved on to the quarterfinals Tuesday, Aug. 6 and won again as huge betting favorite over Brazil to advance to Thursday’s semifinal round. An opportunity to clinch a spot on the podium and play in the gold medal game Saturday is on the line for four remaining teams.
Quarterfinal Results
- Germany 76, Greece 63
- Serbia 95, Australia 90 (OT)
- France 82, Canada 73
- USA 122, Brazil 87
Host country France was the only underdog winner in the quarterfinals in their win over Canada. That despite last year’s NBA No. 1 overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama making just 2-of-10 shots from the floor for 7 points, but adding a team-high 12 rebounds.
France was a popular bet (+116) at FanDuel to earn a medal in men’s basketball, and now they are one win away from the gold medal game and a likely matchup vs. Team USA. A loss by France vs. Germany puts them in the consolation bronze medal game.
Serbia rallied from a 24-point first half deficit to outlast Australia 95-90 in overtime.
