Martin St. Louis’ men saw their three-game win streak come to a halt before the NHL Christmas break. The Habs suffered a 5-4 defeat versus the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday, failing to secure their 15th win of the year.

Paul Maurice’s troops saw them lose in the spirited affair, taking on their bitter in-state rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Panthers were shutout on home ice, losing 4-0, snapping their consecutive winning run at three.

Montreal Canadiens at Florida Panthers predictions

The Canadiens’ captain added to his team-leading point total on Monday night. Nick Suzuki acquired an assist in 21 minutes of ice time against Columbus. Through 34 games the 25-year-old has amassed 33 points.

Cole Caufield, the Habs leading goal getter has dried up in the scoring department of late. In his last seven outings, the club’s sniper has failed to light the lamp. The winger has collected 17 goals through 34 games played.

The most productive player for the Panthers this season was left off the stat sheet on Monday. Sam Reinhart is off to a career-best start to his NHL career as the centre has cataloged 22 goals and 45 points in 36 appearances.

Matthew Tkachuk, the team’s second-leading point scorer, saw his run appearing on the stat sheet after four consecutive games. Tkachuk finds himself in the top 30 in the league overall with 35 points registered.

After cataloging three wins in a row in the blue crease, Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals off 28 shots he faced against the Lightning on Monday.

The two-time Vezina Trophy winner is putting up subpar numbers between the pipes this year possessing a 2.80 GAA and a .895 save percentage in 24 starts.

Montreal Canadiens at Florida Panthers tips

Rolling into Saturday’s afternoon matinee match, the Panthers have completely owned the Habs at Amerant Bank Arena, winning nine consecutive tilts.

This year the Canadiens have failed to gain any traction against the upper echelon teams in the league. This could be another bad spot for Montreal as they currently own four wins in 15 away trips to date.

Looking for value, we feel the play for Saturday’s skirmish is siding with the over in the goals department.

In Montreal’s last six road games, in four instances the over has hit. This matchup has produced higher-scoring matches in fresh memory, with nine of the last 12 games having gone over the total mark between the two.

The Habs have a young defensive core, and facing a high-octane side like Florida should help with goals getting on the scoreboard. The first game back from the mini holiday break could result in sloppy play from both sides leading to errors on both ends.
