Olympiacos vs Rangers preview
Rangers travel to Karaskaikas Stadium to face Olympiacos in the league phase of the Europa League on Thursday.
And the pair arrive with a good few similarities.
Both have an identical record in this season’s competition having won two and lost one of their opening three fixtures – separated in 11th and 12th places by goal difference.
Both have also had varied starts to their domestic league campaigns with Olympiacos sitting in fourth position, while Rangers are in third – nine points adrift from Celtic and Aberdeen.
The hosts lost their opening game to Lyon before responding well with victories over Braga and Malmo. They’ll now look to make it three on the bounce having claimed back-to-back wins on the domestic front.
They might also take confidence from the fact they’ve won both of their home games against Scottish sides in all competitions, beating Dunfermline Athletic 3-0 in November 1968, and Celtic 2-0 in October 1974.
Rangers have also won just one of their eight meetings with Greek sides in all competitions.
Away form has been the biggest problem for Rangers’ under-fire manager Philippe Clement. His side have lost three of five away games so far and looked to heading for another before turning it around against Motherwell in Sunday’s League Cup semi-final.
