Olympic betting guide for Saturday, August 3

For U.S. sports fans, the top events on tap for Saturday in the Paris 2024 Olympics include a one-sided matchup for the men’s basketball team against Puerto Rico (11:15 a.m. ET on NBC) and an elimination match for the USWNT.

The U.S. women are the clear favorites against Japan in the quarterfinal round at 9 a.m. on USA Network. That match, from Parc des Princes in Paris, could be the toughest test the U.S. has faced so far in the Olympics, as Japan went 2-1 in group play, with wins over Nigeria and Brazil and a 2-1 loss to co-Olympic favorites Spain.

In addition to the soccer and basketball games for the Americans, Saturday’s Olympic action will feature medal action in gymnastics, skeet shooting, judo, badminton, fencing, swimming, surfing and track and field.

Olympic Men’s Basketball Odds for August 3

On the hardwood, coach Steve Kerr’s team is expected to cruise against an overmatched Puerto Rico team. The total for USA vs. Puerto Rico is set at as high as 190.5 (Over -110; Under -110) at bet365.

As of Saturday morning, 90 minutes before tip-off, below are the spread odds for that matchup:

DraftKings FanDuel bet365
USA -34.5 (-112) -35.5 (-110) -34.5 (-110)
Puerto Rico +34.5 (-108) +35.5 (-110) +34.5 (-110)

Women’s Olympic Soccer Odds: USA vs. Japan

Below are the three-way monelyine odds for this match at DraftKings and FanDuel:

DraftKings FanDuel
USA -230 -230
Draw +390 +380
Japan +550 +500

It’s also possible to simply bet on which team will advance, even if it needs extra time and/or PKs to go through. In that market, USA are -500 at FD and -600 at DK, while Japan are +360 at both FD and DK.

USA mostly rolled through group play, with impressive blowout wins over Germany and Zambia, but Manager Emma Hayes’ team will likely be tested by Japan on Saturday.

Still, this team is co-favorites (+160 at DraftKings) — just behind Spain (+150 at DK) — to win Gold for good reason given how potent the front line of Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson and Trinity Rodman has been throughout this tournament.

Expect the Americans to advance on Sunday, but don’t be surprised if it’s a competitive match. That means that the best bet for USA vs. Japan is a parlay: USA Win and Over 2.5 (-110 at DraftKings). Also consider Mallory Swanson Anytime Goal Scorer (+160).

August 3 Olympic Women’s Soccer Quarterfinal Odds

  • Spain (-1000) vs. Colombia (+1200) — 11 a.m. ET
  • Canada (+150) vs. Germany (-190) — 1 p.m. ET
  • France (-285) vs. Brazil (+215) — 3 p.m. ET

Saturday, August 3 Olympic Odds Roundup

Several other notable Olympic events, including a couple Gold Medal competitions in athletics, take place on Saturday, before track and field takes center stage on Sunday.

Track and field: Men’s 1,500m Gold Medal odds (1:15 p.m. ET)

At FanDuel, Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the reigning Olympic champ, is heavily favored to win Gold at -160, but Great Britain’s Josh Kerr is a short underdog at +125. Kerr beat Ingebrigtsen at last year’s World Championship, and the two have been in a war of words since, which adds to the intrigue in this race.

Track and field: Men’s Shot Put Gold Medal odds (1:35 p.m. ET)

FD lists American Ryan Crouser (-180) as the favorite ahead of Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri (+230).

Men’s basketball: Serbia vs. South Sudan odds (3 p.m. ET)

In addition to USA vs. Puerto Rico, the other men’s basketball teams in Group C, Serbia and South Sudan, also meet on Saturday. Nikola Jokic and Serbia are 13.5-point favorites over South Sudan in that game.
