July 31 Men’s Olympic Basketball Betting Analysis

According to oddsmakers, Serbia and USA should both cruise to easy victories against Puerto Rico and South Sudan, respectively.

USA’s Olympic opener against Serbia was close for most of the first half, but Kevin Durant was too much for Serbia, with 21 points on 8-for-8 shooting in just under nine first-half minutes.

USA, which led 46-44 with 2:06 remaining in the first half, outscored Serbia 12-5 over the final two minutes of the second quarter to take a 58-49 halftime lead. Durant, LeBron James and Co. cruised the rest of the way, as they led 84-65 after three quarters en route to a 110-86 victory.

South Sudan not only kept a recent exhibition against the Americans close, but very nearly pulled off the upset. But they nevertheless figure to be overmatched on Wednesday. In fact, if Team USA is hot from 3-point land again (it went 18-for-32 against Serbia), a victory by 30 points or more will be well within reach.

Check back for more from Newsweek on USA vs. South Sudan later on Wednesday morning.

As for Serbia-Puerto Rico, Jokic’s team is heavily favored despite fading down the stretch against USA last Sunday. Serbia, which went just 9-for-37 on 3-pointers against USA, should be able to win comfortably against Puerto Rico as long as it can find its shooting touch.

Olympic Women’s Soccer Odds for July 31

Another major Olympic sport with several contests scheduled for Wednesday, July 31, is women’s soccer.

Australia vs. USA (1 p.m. ET on USA network) is one of six women’s soccer matches on tap, as all 12 teams wrap up group play before the quarterfinals get underway on August 3.

BetMGM, on the other hand, has USA favored (+150) ahead of Spain (+175), while Caesars sees La Roja as the clear favorite at +140, followed by USA at +200.

Australia vs. USA Women’s Soccer Analysis, Best Bets

So far at these Olympics, Team USA look more like the juggernaut that won the 2019 World Cup in dominant fashion than the disjointed group that took the pitch in 2023. The young, dynamic front line of 23-year-old Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson (26) and Trinity Rodman (22) has been dominant. That trio has produced six of the seven goals USA has scored in wins over Zambia (3-0) and Germany (4-1), with Swanson assisting on the lone goal, courtesy of Lynn Williams, that did not come from Smith, Swanson or Rodman.

There’s little reason to expect a side that has looked like a well-oiled machine under Manager Emma Hayes to slow down on Wednesday against the Aussies, which makes USA -1.5 (+105 at DraftKings) and USA Team total Over 2.5 (+135 at DraftKings) two solid bets.

100-meter Freestyle Finals Feature Big Names

Several of the biggest names in international swimming are in action on Wednesday, starting with the women’s 100m freestyle final, which is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET. Both the men’s and women’s 100m freestyle finals will air on NBC, with the men’s getting underway at 4:39 p.m. ET
