PANDI Supports Govt to Combat Online Gambling Through IDADX

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Internet Domain Name Administrator (PANDI) supports the government’s efforts to combat online gambling. As such, PANDI will help identify the misuse of domain names infiltrated with online gambling content through the Indonesia Domain Abuse Data Exchange (IDADX).

“PANDI is highly concerned about the online gambling cases currently affecting Indonesia. Therefore, we created IDADX to ensure that websites with suspected negative content can be detected more quickly. We are ready to assist the government in breaking the chain of online gambling that has caused significant harm to the country and its people,” said PANDI Chairman John Sihar Simanjuntak in a written statement on Friday, November 8, 2024.

John explained that IDADX is a platform developed to protect national cyber security, one of which is to track and identify reports from the public about websites that have been infiltrated with online gambling content and other negative content such as phishing, malware, and pornography.

“As the .id domain administrator, we always coordinate with the Directorate of Government Information Technology Applications (LAIP) of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) when there are go.id and desa.id domains infiltrated with negative content such as online gambling. However, if Kemkomdigi needs data on the total number of .id domains detected with online gambling content, we are ready to report it,” John added.

John also mentioned the data source for idadx.id comes from emails and reports submitted by the public and members. IDADX is also working with various cyber security services to collect and verify data related to cyber threats to increase its effectiveness in combating domain name abuse.

Regarding the operation in IDADX, there is the Breach Identification and Monitoring Assistant (BIMA) system, which is an automated tool or bot in IDADX that quickly identifies and escalates reports of domain name misuse. BIMA is designed to improve efficiency and functions as an active crawler that seeks and captures evidence of domain name misuse reports.

“When misuse of the domain is identified, PANDI will provide notifications and carry out suspension procedures. As of now, the data from idadx.id in 2024 shows that there are 46,982 URLs infiltrated with online gambling content,” he stated.
