El Fabiolo is now 1/3 favourite to win the Queen Mother Champion Chase for the second year running at Cheltenham this afternoon.
Willie Mullins’ charge beat Jonbon to win last year’s Arkle Chase and has won all three of his races since. His chances have been further improved by the withdrawal from this race of Jonbon, whose trainer Nicky Henderson has pulled out several of his runners because of concerns for their health.
Ferny Hollow had been seen as another potential challenger but after returning from two years out with injury he has suffered another setback and is also an absentee.
That leaves Edwardstone as second favourite at 6/1 after his 40-length victory in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury last month.
Captain Guinness, Gentleman De Mee and Elixir De Nutz complete the top five in the betting for the Champion Chase at 11/1, 22/1 and 25/1 respectively.
