The Lalpur Police team of Ranchi Jharkhand has arrested eight individuals, including the
leader, for running an IPL betting and online gambling racket in the capital. The group had
rented apartments to conduct their illegal activities.
The ringleader, Deepak Tandon (27), a resident of Subhash Nagar in Bermo and Shubham
Kumar (23), living near Ram Mandir in Patratu Bazaar, were among those arrested. Deepak
originally hails from Chhattisgarh. The other arrested individuals include Vinay Kumar (22)
from Teachers Colony, Patratu; Neeraj Kumar Rajwar (21) from Subhash Nagar, Bermo;
Vikas Kumar (24) from near Ram Mandir, Patratu Bazaar; Rahul Kumar (30) from Sunday
Bazaar, Bokaro; Sagar Kumar (27); and Aditya Kumar (24) from Jawahar Nagar, Bermo.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kumar Sinha provided details of the arrests
during a press conference held at his office on Saturday evening, reported Prabhat Khabar.
SSP Sinha revealed that based on a tip-off, the Lalpur Police team first raided near the
Registry Office at Morhabadi Ground. They arrested Deepak Tandon with a pistol and found
13 ATM cards from various individuals. During the interrogation, Tandon admitted to
running an online gambling operation. He rented a flat in Esha Apartment in the Bariatu
Police Station area for ₹16,500 and another flat in Jagannathpur Apartment for ₹14,000 per month.
Tandon confessed to the police that their illegal gambling operation generated weekly
transactions of ₹10 to 15 lakhs. They conducted their activities through the Star Exchange
and Lotus 999 websites. The police are working to identify the owners of the seized
chequebooks and ATM cards. The gang had previous connections with another group
arrested in Bokaro for similar offences.
The other arrested individuals disclosed that they worked for Deepak Tandon and Shubham
Kumar, receiving monthly salaries of ₹25,000-30,000. They were provided with free
accommodation and meals. They posed as students or workers to avoid suspicion. The
police also seized 200 empty liquor bottles from the apartments.
Other Seized Items include one country-made pistol, four laptops, 28 mobile phones, 12 SIMcards, one swipe machine, 114 ATM cards, 12 passbooks, 50 chequebooks, one Jio WiFi
device, one printer, one motorcycle, one scooter, one car, multiple Aadhaar and PAN cards,
gold chains and silver chains and few other pieces of jewelry.
The police continue to investigate and anticipate further developments in the case.
