Defeat is absolutely out of the question for Rangers and Philippe Clement this Thursday.

Though with Rangers’ remaining games in this competition, you’d have to say this was a must-win, in that respect alone.

But having been turned over at Rugby Park on Sunday, there’s certainly a growing number in the Gers’ support that have lost patience with the manager.

Kilmarnock survived a couple of scares at the start of the second half but were generally comfortable against a Rangers side who looked bereft of ideas or instruction and really struggled to cope with the conditions.

And those that had made the trip to Ayrshire were seen leaving in their droves when Marley Watkins scored late on to earn Killie a deserved win.

Add that to the 4-1 thumping from Lyon here earlier this month and it’s been a tough time for the Light Blues, who desperately need something to click.

But they’re at home, and are warm favourites against an FCSB side who are seemingly set to field a second string side for the contest.

They find themselves languishing in fifth in Romania’s top flight, though who themselves have won their last five and are unbeaten in nine in all competitions, with this game sandwiched by two big derbies.

Their run also includes winning BOTH of their Europa League games so far at home to RFS and then away at PAOK.

Pay the penalty

James Tavernier needs to lead from the front, particularly in this current squad predicament.

He was moved into a more attacking right-wing spot late on on Sunday and remains Gers’ greatest threat from dead ball situations, too – free kicks and, of course, penalties.
