Real Madrid vs Real Betis predictions

We are only three games into the new La Liga season. It is far too early to be drawing hard and fast conclusions about any of the division’s 20 teams.

One thing is for sure, though: Real Madrid have not impressed so far. With just one win to their name, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have allowed Barcelona to move four points clear ahead of the weekend.

The Catalan club can extend their lead over their arch-rivals to seven points on Saturday when they host Real Valladolid. That would leave Madrid under pressure to respond the following day. Even just a few weeks into the campaign, the Blancos will not want to fall so far adrift of top spot.

Ancelotti’s team opened 2024/25 with a 1-1 draw with Real Mallorca. Normal service seemed to be resumed last weekend when Madrid beat Valladolid 3-0, only for the champions to drop another two points in a 1-1 draw with Las Palmas on Thursday night.

“We lack balance,” Ancelotti admitted in midweek, repeating the same criticism he made after gameweek one. “We have to find a solution quickly. I have not noticed any improvement compared to the Mallorca game. We are not a solid team.”

It was a brutally honest assessment from Ancelotti, who must be wondering why everything seems to have fallen apart. After all, his team won both La Liga and the Champions League last season. Their title triumph came by a margin of 10 points and would have been more had Madrid not taken their foot off the gas late on.

Yet all of a sudden, Madrid are on the brink of crisis. If that description sounds excessive, it is worth remembering the weight of pressure and expectation at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid created plenty of chances against Las Palmas. On another night, they would have won comfortably.

But Ancelotti is right. The team lacks coherence. Even the opportunities they fashioned were more from individual moments rather than collective patterns. That is a worry if Madrid want to win the big prizes again this season.

Will we see an improvement this weekend?

Real Madrid vs Real Betis betting tips

Real Madrid should get the job done against Real Betis at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid to win to nil – 19/17 (VBET)

The worry for Real Madrid is that they may be too top-heavy with the introduction of Kylian Mbappe.

Football is all about collective balance and that might not be possible with Mbappe, Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior in the same XI. Something may have to give.

On the plus side, things could be different at the Bernabeu. Madrid beat Valladolid 3-0 in their first home game of the match, although two of their goals came late.

They had a fantastic record in front of their own fans last term, though. Madrid won 16 and drew three of their 19 home matches in 2023/24, scoring 48 goals and conceding just nine.

Real Betis scored only one goal in their opening two league games. Madrid can keep a clean sheet in this one.

Two goals in the second half – 29/16 (VBET)

Real Madrid were poor in the first half of the Las Palmas game, but they came on stronger after the break.

Four of the five goals they have scored so far this season have come in the second half of matches.

Given the disappointment of Thursday, not to mention the physical exertions of a midweek trip to Gran Canaria, it could take a while for Madrid to get going here.

Real Betis were also in action in a Conference League play-off on Thursday. They should have some success in keeping things tight in the first half, but they may not be able to hold out until the end of the match.

We envisage two goals being scored after the break – probably for Madrid, but this bet covers strikes at either end.

Kylian Mbappe to score any time – 10/11 (VBET)

Plenty has been written about Mbappe’s start to life at Real Madrid – and not much of it has been favourable.

Signing the Frenchman was always likely to cause teething problems given his preferred position is the same as Vinicius’.

Mbappe has been stationed centrally instead of on the left up to now, and he is yet to score in Spain for his new employers (he did find the net in the UEFA Super Cup).

The former Paris Saint-Germain star is desperate to open his account in La Liga and this could be the game in which he does it.

Mbappe took nine shots against Las Palmas. It is surely only a matter of time before one of his attempts goes in.
