Real Sociedad vs Barcelona predictions

The final La Liga fixture of Matchday 13 sees Real Sociedad host Barcelona on Sunday night.

Sociedad sit 11th in the table with 15 points from 12 matches. They are 18 points behind Barça who top the table with 33 points from a possible 36.

The two teams’ statistics couldn’t be more contrasting. Sociedad has scored ten and conceded ten in their 12 matches. Barcelona has scored 40 and conceded eleven – one more than Sociedad – in their 12 La Liga fixtures.

The chances are that Barça will right that wrong on Sunday night and the hosts will have conceded more La Liga goals than the visitors by the end of the evening’s entertainment. But a Barcelona win isn’t the foregone conclusion you might think it will be.

Sociedad are no pushovers at their Reale Arena. Atletico only left with a point on Matchday 9 and Real Madrid needed two second half penalties to seal a less than convincing 2-0 win on Matchday 5.

On the flip side, three of Sociedad’s four wins have come on the road. But for some reason they seem to be able to raise their game against the top sides.

And raise their game, they will have to, because Barcelona are absolutely flying at the moment.

New head coach Hansi Flick has got the Catalans scoring goals for fun. Barcelona have scored a record-breaking 55 goals in 16 matches in all competitions this season. And this, with a crippling injury crisis to deal with.

Furthermore, Hansi Flick could join Juan Jose Nogues and Pep Guardiola as the only coaches to see their team score three or more goals in eight consecutive matches if they manage it against Sociedad on Sunday.

The most recent team to be put to the sword were Crvena zvezda (Red Star Belgrade), who went down 5-2 at home in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Real Madrid had four put past them at the Santiago Bernabeu on Matchday 11, and Bayern Munich suffered the same fate at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Matchday 3 of the Champions League.

Barcelona aren’t just beating minnows, they are taking apart the best teams in Europe.

In team news, the white-blues are set to be without Hamari Traore, Pablo Marin and Arsen Zakharyan.

As for Barcelona, they are still without long term absentees Marc-André Ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo, Ferran Torres, Andreas Christensen, Eric García and Marc Bernal. While Pau Cubarsí is a doubt after the gruesome facial injury he sustained in the Champions League in midweek.

Real Sociedad vs Barcelona betting tips

Real Sociedad suffered a setback on Thursday, losing 2-1 away to Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League. Hardly ideal preparation for this fixture.

But regardless of how Sociedad are playing, it’s hard to know if there is anything they can do to quell Barcelona in their current form.

The facts are that the hosts are relying on Barcelona having an off night. And with the possibility of records being broken, it’s hard to see Barça easing off. More Real Sociedad vs Barcelona betting tips can be found below:

Barcelona (-1) to win

The fact that the bookies have priced Barcelona up at 4/6 suggests that they don’t see this as a walkover win for Hansi Flick’s team.

What this has done though is made a Barcelona win on the handicap far better value. And with the form the Catalans are in, they are well worth backing to win with a couple of goals to spare.

Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha are on fire. Youngsters like Lamine Yamal are barely getting a mention, such is the form of the experienced duo.

Barça are in a great place at the moment and it is worth the additional risk to get the better odds of them winning.

Barcelona to score over 2.5 goals

I’m usually a bit reluctant to do these types of bets for a team on the road, but on this occasion there are plenty of reasons to justify the risk.

Barcelona scored four away at Real Madrid. They have scored a minimum of three goals in their last seven matches in all competitions, and they have 55 in 16 matches this season.

The Catalans are scoring for fun and look like they are just in the zone at the moment.

I believe Barça will score at least twice. Over 1.5 is 8/13 if you wish to play safe. But given their current form, over 2.5 goals at far better odds of 7/4 looks worth the risk.

Robert Lewandowski to score anytime

Robert Lewandowski scored another two goals in the midweek win over Crvena zvezda. They were his fourth and fifth goals in the Champions League and 18th and 19th in all competitions.

And just for good measure, showing what a good allround footballer Lewandowski is, he also has two La Liga assists.

In his shootout with Harry Kane in the Champions League, the Pole came out on top. They might have scored one each. But Lewandowski took the honours as his team won 4-1.

Last weekend he drew a blank in the 3-1 win over local rivals Espanyol. But he did score a quick fire brace in the 4-0 demolition of Real Madrid in the match before.

Lewandowski is simply red hot at the moment. It’s highly unlikely he will go two La Liga games in a row without a goal.
