The Daily Express is calling on the Football Association and Nike to restore the St George’s Cross to its original form on the new England kit.

The traditional red cross, a symbol of national pride and unity, has been replaced with a multicoloured version on the nation’s new kit. This was announced earlier this week as part of a “playful update… to unite and inspire”.
A new petition by the Express said that “the St George’s Cross is more than just an emblem; it is sacrosanct” and that it “represents our history, heritage and national identity”. It said that “changing its colour not only dilutes its significance but also disrespects those who hold it dear”.
It is calling for the FA and Nike to restore the St George’s Cross to its original form ahead of this summer’s European Championships.
