Roma vs Inter predictions

Roma finished a disappointing sixth in Serie A last season. A poor campaign saw Jose Mourinho sacked in January and replaced with playing legend Daniele De Rossi on a contract until the end of the season.

Di Rossi made a huge difference. He impressed the club’s owners, who extended his contract until 2027. But after a poor start that saw l Giallorossi fail to win any of their opening four matches this term, Di Rossi was sacked in September.

Into Di Rossi’s place came Ivan Juric. The Croatian has steadied the ship, claiming seven points in three matches.

The improvement in form sees Roma start Gameweek 8 in 9th position with ten points from seven matches.

Overall this season, Roma has won two, drawn four and lost one in Serie A. While in the Europa League, l Giallorossi has drawn one and lost one.

The Europa League defeat was poor. It was a 1-0 loss away to Elfsborg, who sit 6th in the Allsvenskan. The Romans dominated the match with 78% of the possession, but they just couldn’t find a way through.

The defeat in the Europa League was followed by a 1-1 draw away to second from bottom Monza in Serie A.

These are not the ideal two results to take into a match against the current Serie A champions and the odds-on favourites to win the Scudetto again this season.

Inter has had a slightly indifferent start to the season themselves.

Despite this, the bookmakers still make them 4/6 to win the Serie A title again this season. In the 2023/24 campaign, Simone Inzaghi led Inter to the Scudetto at a canter.

The Nerazzurri won the title with 94 points from 38 matches. They were a massive 19 points ahead of second-place AC Milan.

Inter hasn’t quite picked up from where they left off last season just yet. They have 14 points from seven matches and start Gameweek 8 second in the table, two points behind early pace-setters Napoli. So things are starting to improve.

Results have been mixed. A 0-0 draw in the Champions League away to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium showed what the 2023 competition runners-up are capable of on the continent. But that was followed by a lacklustre 2-1 defeat to Milan in the local derby.

It’s well known that teams can sometimes struggle to pick themselves up after the high of a great European night. But this was the Milan Derby, not a match against a mid table team with little to offer.

Since that loss to Milan, Inter has won three in a row in all competitions, scoring ten goals in the process.

Ahead of the 3-2 win over Udinese (the match that started the run), club captain Lautaro Martínez had failed to score this season.

He now has three goals and two assists to his name following a brace against Udinese, a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win over Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League, and another assist in the 3-2 win over Torino, Inter’s last match before the international break.

What a difference just one player returning to form can make. And with Martinez now back on song, this could be a bad time for Roma to be facing the champions.

Roma vs Inter betting tips

A home fixture against Inter Milan could be just the match to get the juices flowing for an out-of-sorts Roma. The problem is, on current form, a win for the hosts just doesn’t look on the cards at all. Below we have named our betting tips on the match:

Inter Milan to win

We feel that Inter Milan have finally got into their stride.

The defending champions have their front two of Marcus Thurman and Lautaro Martinez in good form and both scoring regularly. And with ten goals in their last three matches, they will enter the cauldron of the Stadio Olimpico in a confident mood.

Simone Inzaghi and his Inter team knows what to expect in the capital city. But it shouldn’t phase them in the slightest.

Inter is now an established top European team. They’ve been to the Etihad Stadium and shut out Manchester City. They know how to win matches like this. And at odds of 4/5, they look a good value bet to win in the match result market.

Back Inter Milan to win at 4/5 with Parimatch

Both teams to score

Roma has scored in every home match they have played in all competitions this season. The hosts don’t seem to be having any problem finding the back of the net in front of their own fans.

Inter Milan have both scored and conceded in their last four Serie A matches. They’ve conceded four times in their two most recent league fixtures, and five in their last three.

With players of the quality of Paulo Dybala, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thurman on show, it looks pretty inevitable that both teams will score.

Inter to score Over 1.5 goals

The last thing you need when you are in a poor run of form is to be facing a rampant Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

We’ve already covered the return to form of Martinez. But what we didn’t mention is that his assist against Torino was for his strike partner Marcus Thurman, who helped himself to a hattrick in the win.

Inter does have Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic waiting in the wings. But with Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Young Boys, Inzaghi is likely to stick with his inform strikers and maybe rotate for the clash in Switzerland on Wednesday instead.
