Scorpio season is time for shadow work — your sign’s tarot horoscope

It’s a time to figure out your deepest desires and fears (Picture: Getty)

Scorpio season begins October 22 and, with it, the world is infused with this Pluto-ruled sign’s energy… dark, occult, probing, intense, secretive, intuitive, powerful.

Scorpios are intensely analytical about everything, especially the hidden, scary, low-down, kept-secret things. Scorpios have to know. And also possess the fearlessness and resilience to answer the questions others wouldn’t even ask.

This is the season for shadow work, for getting to know your suppressed traits and characteristics that you don’t want others to see, or want to influence your life.

We all push parts of ourselves down. The thing is… they don’t go away, they just influence us and surface from an even deeper level. The trick, with shadow work, is to acknowledge these traits, know their origins, notice their triggers, and start to manage them into the light and release them.

Let the tarot guide you towards your shadow work objective or theme this Scorpio season. Hold my hand, it’s okay…

Aries

March 21 to April 20

Buckle down, Aries (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Aries for Scorpio season: Three of Wands

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by the Three of Wands. You have an inner jester or chaotic clown who likes to rush in and sabotage you when you’re trying to concentrate, focus, or tackle something that (truthfully) you’d rather not.

This jester is trying to keep child-like you entertained and happy, but adult you needs him to pipe down because ‘adulting’ requires doing boring sh** sometimes. Talk to the clown. Tell him to simmer down. Promise him a play time… and stick to it, but not during tasks!

Taurus

April 21 to May 21

You can’t ignore grief (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Taurus for Scorpio season: Five of Cups

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by the Five of Cups, which means it’s time to embrace, understand, listen to, and comfort a grieving version of yourself which you’ve ignored to tried to push past for a while now.

Grief comes in waves and surges, with no set pattern, so you can’t control it (and you’re all about control, Taurus). Surrender to these feelings and see this broken, sad person and comfort him/her as you would a beloved friend. You are hurting on some level. Help this heal.

Gemini

May 22 to June 21

One of your sides is becoming more dominant (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Gemini for Scorpio season: Temperance

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by Temperance. You are letting one of your twins (the one who gets you in trouble, I suspect) take the wheel and have too much control. Things feel out of kilter. You could be lingering around or entering into a phase of addictive behaviour, extreme habits, or obsessiveness.

Come back to the middle ground, rebalance, seek harmony, find peace, ground yourself, Gemini! Nothing good happens at the outlier edges of life. You need to find balance and moderation. Grounding is your homework.

Cancer

June 22 to July 23

Being needy won’t serve your needs (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Cancer for Scorpio season: Ten of Cups

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by the Ten of Cups. It’s time to examine how you love people and where there is a needy or outdated version of you (maybe a child version) within that is still controlling those habits and defaults, when actually you’ve long outgrown that inner you.

Examine where close relationships don’t feel two-way, balanced, rewarding, or kind. Look at what you invest and do for that person. Ask yourself why? Ask why you keep on giving when there’s nothing equal happening in return. Talk to that inner child. Make some changes.

Leo

July 24 to August 23

You need the bad to truly enjoy the good in life, Leo (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Leo for Scorpio season: Six of Wands

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by the Six of Wands. This is a very lucky, successful, happy card and, being ruled by the Sun, you naturally enjoy a good life, lots of good fortune, and a positive spin on events. But it can’t all be like that. You can’t see the light without the darkness, you need to experience contrast.

Stop resisting bad news or upsetting events or sad moments. Live through it all. You can handle it. Who are you protecting? What version of yourself do you think can’t cope? Find them and comfort them and ask them to stop blocking you from real life.

Virgo

August 24 to September 23

Death is a card of transformation (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Virgo for Scorpio season: Death

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by Death. Deep down, you have a true terror about change, about unpredicted events, unseen forces, new news, different demands, and fresh challenges being swept into your realm. Within, there is a version of you desperate to keep control of everything, to cling to the known, familiar, certain, and sure bets.

Life isn’t complying! It never will, Virgo. Reboot the hard wiring, reset the system. Seek change and transformation of your own making and embrace this energy. You can learn to do it as well as you do everything else!

Libra

September 24 to October 23

Are you reliving the same old patterns? (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Libra for Scorpio season: The Emperor

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by The Emperor. Power dynamics are the theme here. Balance. Equality. Fairness.
In your realm, there is a relationship that triggers a people-pleasing, shape-shifting version of yourself that you wish you could resist.

Examine this dynamic. Why has it arisen? Who, from childhood, does this other person remind you of? Are you playing out old patterns? Are you trying to avoid something that happened before? Look at this, work it out, and then change your behaviour to recalibrate this dynamic.

Scorpio

October 24 to November 22

The voice in your head is especially harsh (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Scorpio for Scorpio season: Judgment

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by Judgment. Your have a fierce inner critic and judge who whispers in your ear constantly, comparing you to others unfavourably and spotlighting every error or mis-step.

This dire comparison shadow self is ready to be faced. Where did this voice emerge? What is it so scared of you doing wrong? What consequences does it falter before? You are a strong, brave person. Your only enemy is your own warped shadow self’s desire for self criticism. Deal with this and be free.

Sagittarius

November 23 to December 21

Constant crisis mode can be draining (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Sagittarius for Scorpio season: The Tower

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by The Tower. Your shadow self is drawn towards disaster and mayhem, salivating over dreadful details and then projecting onto your own realm, a ‘what if?’ catastrophising that can actually be quite paralysing if it spirals.

Stop watching the news, withdraw from reading about terrible events. Look around you. Ground your perception of reality in the here and now, in your home, family, friends and work. Stay there. When your mind wanders to terrible places, draw it back. Ask your shadow self what it’s trying to prepare you for or protect you from? It has your best interests at heart but has totally got it wrong about how to serve its objective. Correct the course.

Capricorn

December 22 to January 21

Try to stop defaulting to the worst case scenario this Scorpio season (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Capricorn for Scorpio season: Seven of Cups

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by the Seven of Cups. You have a powerful mind and, although you don’t shout about it, a colourful imagination, especially when it comes to imagining future scenarios of doom!

You counter this by sticking to the practical and tangible. However, your shadow self can crop up and start painting frightening scenes for you in the middle of the night or waking hours. Start diluting this imaginary projection with meditation, music, or mantras. Reset the vision.

Aquarius

January 22 to February 19

There’s no sense in being a rebel without a cause (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Aquarius for Scorpio season: The Hierophant

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by The Hierophant. Rebellion is a strong theme in your life, and has perhaps been the cause of many a dramatic event, separation, life lesson, or trial. In some ways it serves you well and you’re a very independent thinker and activist. In other ways, it can get disruptive and chaotic.

Your shadow self loves to argue, play devil’s advocate, go the opposite direction… often just the hell of it. Learn to rein it in. Learn to know when it’s rebellion for rebellion’s sake and when it is going to make a positive difference.

Pisces

February 20 to March 20

Ask yourself why you’re so afraid of being disliked (Picture: Getty/Metro.co.uk)

Tarot card for Pisces for Scorpio season: Knight of Cups

Meaning: Your Scorpio season shadow work objective or theme is set by the Knight of Cups which reflects your shadow self’s fear of not being liked (or loved).

Loneliness is not an option for passionate, caring, empathetic Pisceans, and you dread people getting a negative impression of you, talking about it, and maybe turning others away. This is not a real dread because you’re adorable and extremely popular. Why does your shadow self torment you about this? Talk to it. Find out. It probably links to a childhood argument or falling out.
