IT’S crunch time in qualification for next summer’s U21 European Championships and Scotland are still bang there in contention.

Scotland U21 vs Spain U21 preview

With four games to go in Group B, Scotland are in a great position for qualification to next summer’s U21 Euros.

Scot Gemmill’s side are three points behind Spain who they host on Friday.

Belgium are only behind Scotland on goal difference, though have played a game more. As have Hungary, three points behind.

Anything from this game would be great in securing that coveted second spot, though a win to move joint top with Spain would of course put them in the reckoning to win the group.

They’ll need to do so without Connor Barron, Tommy Conway, Ben Doak and Max Johnston who have all been selected for the main squad this time around.

The two June friendlies didn’t quite go to plan, losing to Turkey before a 5-0 drubbing from Austria.

But before that it was five without defeat – winning four of them – with the run coming after a 1-0 defeat to the Spanish in Jaén.

Scotland U21 vs Spain U21 prediction and tips

Keep it tight

With a much easier game against Malta to come in a few days time, Scotland’s U21s can almost see this as a free hit against the group leaders.

Obviously, a win puts them well in contention to win this group but they have to mindful not to throw away second spot.

Spain go into this as warm favourites and with the players Gemmill has lost, it’ll be tough for the hosts. But there is enough there to battle out a point.
