Two will enter, but only one of Scotland and Hungary can qualify for the knockout rounds as the two sides clash in Stuttgart on Sunday to begin the final round of group stage matches at Euro 2024.
Group A leaders Germany have already qualified for the knockout round, while Switzerland are almost guaranteed to advance as well. Scotland, with one point through the first two games, can theoretically catch them, but would need a massive win here and are far more likely to advance as one of the four third-place qualifiers.
With no points thus far, Hungary are in a dire situation, as even a victory could leave them on the outside. Three points would put them into a qualifying position, but a number of teams would have a chance to jump them as the third round progresses.
A draw would leave both sides eliminated from the competition—Hungary for sure, and Scotland with any number of outside results.

Scotland vs. Hungary prediction, odds
- Moneyline lean: Scotland (+165)
- Score prediction: Scotland 1-0 Hungary
Scotland quite simply have much better vibes coming into this match. Hungary haven’t been close in either of their first two games, while Scotland managed to show marketable improvement from the opener to the second match against Switzerland.
Hungary could be eliminated even if they win, so the impetus is much more on the side of Scotland, who would likely see their way through to the knockout stage if they secure a victory here. A draw helps neither team, so someone should be up to win it late.

- Pick: Most goals in half — 1H
- Odds: +200 (BetMGM)
Both sides will be going for a win, as a draw would leave both of them out. Conventional wisdom says that will create an open game, but it might actually do the opposite.
Once one side gets a goal, they’re going to sit on it and protect it at all costs. These two nations would surely prefer to sit back and absorb pressure from a mid-level opponent rather than risk going forward to grab a second. Both of these teams conceded first-half goals in both of their group games so far, so expect someone to nick one early and try to hang onto it.
While the perception that goals have flowed at a consistent rate has been a major talking point at Euro 2024, reality paints a slightly different truth. Since the first five matches of Euro 2024 all went over 2.5 goals, only six of the 16 have gone over since. Add in the fact that own-goal already pretty much has the Golden Boot wrapped up (six own goals have been scored, while only three players have scored multiple goals), and there’s promise of a continued downturn.
Scotland vs. Hungary prop bet
- Pick: Scott McTominay 1+ shot on target
- Odds: -145 (FanDuel)
- Pick: Scott McTominay anytime goal scorer
- Odds: +270 (BetMGM)
Scott McTominay’s emergence as a big-game player for Scotland has been extremely enjoyable to watch. Playing an advanced No. 8 role for the national team, McTominay isn’t a high-volume player, but he has been Johnny on the spot when he arrives in the penalty area.
The Manchester United midfielder has eight international goals in his 50 caps, but all eight have come since March of last year, and all eight have been in competitive matches—McTominay hasn’t scored a single friendly goal. Hungary have conceded to Ilkay Gundogan and Breel Embolo in their two group games, who play somewhat comparable roles to McTominay.
He was rightly given credit for one against Switzerland after it was initially tabbed as an own goal, and he will be a key player against Hungary.
