St. Pauli vs Bayern Munich predictions

St. Pauli sit 15th in the Bundesliga with just eight points from their opening nine fixtures of the season.

Goals would appear to be the main problem. Die Kiezkicker has scored only seven goals this season, the least amount of any Bundesliga team. But they do have a resolute defence that has only been breached 11 times, the joint-fourth best in the Bundesliga.

The club gained promotion to the top league in Germany by winning the 2.Bundesliga last season. The boys in brown won the title under the guidance of Fabian Hürzeler, who subsequently left to take over as the head coach of Premier League Brighton.

Alexander Blessin was installed as his replacement at the beginning of this season. Blessin inherited a well drilled team, with the club managing to hang onto the majority of the players who gained promotion under Hürzeler.

The new season has been a struggle, though. Last Saturday’s 2-0 away win over Hoffenheim was only their second win of the term.

The three points saw St. Pauli climb out of the bottom three at the expense of their opponents. The win also puts them back within touching distance of the rest of the Bundesliga midtable.

Bayern Munich sit top of the Bundesliga with 23 points from nine matches.

Results went in their favour last weekend with Leipzig losing and Leverkusen again dropping points. As a result, Die Bayern now have a three-point lead at the top.

Despite this, the jury still slightly remains out on new head coach Vincent Kompany.

In the Bundesliga he has impressed. But the big wins by-and-large came against the so-called minnows, and in the table topping clashes against Leverkusen and Frankfurt, Bayern came up short.

A similar accusation can also be made of Kompany and his team in the Champions League.

A 9-2 home demolition of Dinamo Zagreb was followed by a 1-0 defeat away at Aston Villa (who can’t keep clean sheets) and a 4-1 thrashing away at Barcelona on Matchday 3. The defeat to the Catalans was an eye opener for Bayern’s shortcomings.

Some Champions League normality was restored this week with a 1-0 win over Benfica at the Allianz on Wednesday. But even in a game that Bayern absolutely dominated with 74% possession and 24 attempts on goal, the scoreline was far tighter than it needed to be.

Winning the bread and butter Bundesliga matches is vital. Churning out the three points week after week in these sorts of matches puts pressure on Bayern’s title rivals who aren’t as experienced at combining domestic football with midweek European outings.

The next few weeks could be vital in deciding the destination of the Bundesliga title. And only another three points will do against St. Pauli.

St. Pauli vs Bayern Munich betting tips

Real Madrid are finally back in La Liga action with ground to make up in the title race.

Bayern (-1) to win

Bayern are just 23/100 to win in the match result market. The odds are probably about right against a team that doesn’t score many, but it still may be a touch too short for some to back.

Vincent Kompany’s team has won four from five on the road in the Bundesliga this season. Their one slip was the 3-3 draw at Frankfurt.

Three of the four wins were by five goals.

The wins were against Holstein Kel (6-1), Werder (5-0) and most recently Bochum (5-0). The other was a one goal victory against Wolfsburg (3-2) on the opening weekend of the season.

With results on the road like that it really is tempting to go for Bayern to win by more than just one goal.

They are 29/20 starting from -2 and 10/3 starting from -3. But with Bayern having played twice a week since the last international break, it may be safer to go with them to win from a -1 start. This way we get better value than just backing Bayern to win.

Both teams to score – No

St. Pauli has only scored seven goals in the Bundesliga this season and they have only scored in four of their nine matches.

They won’t see much of the ball against a Bayern side that is likely to dominate the possession.

Furthermore, Bayern has kept five clean sheets in nine Bundesliga matches and have only conceded seven in total.

Four of those goals came against top-four opposition in Frankfurt and Leverkusen.

The Bavarians have now kept four successive clean sheets since the debacle against Barcelona. There seems to have been more of an onus on defensive shape in recent weeks.

No in both teams to score at 9/10 with VBET

Jamal Musiala to score anytime

Musiala’s free scoring teammate Harry Kane is just 8/13 to find the net and also 23/10 to score two or more.

Kane has scored two hat-tricks and one brace already this season, and in a match Bayern should win at a canter, don’t be put off backing the England captain to score one or more.

But for our tip, we are going for the back-in-form Jamal Musiala.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder got the winner against Benfica on Wednesday. He also scored a first-half hat-trick against Mainz in their DFB-Pokal second round win and scored and assisted in Bayern’s 5-0 away win at Bochum.

Furthermore, all four of Musiala’s goals in the Bundesliga have come on the road.
