The final Grand Slam of the season, the US Open, is upon us and there are some cracking matches to get the major under way on Monday.
Day one in Flushing Meadows will feature players in the bottom halves of both the men’s and women’s draws with Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka among the big names involved.

Hungarian Marton Fucsovics is an experienced player on the ATP tour but he has progressed beyond the first round of the US Open only three times in the last eight years.
And he could again be worth opposing in this year’s opener in New York against plucky Czech Jiri Lehecka.
Lehecka is seeded 32nd at this season’s US Open and he comes into the Grand Slam in pretty decent form, having reached the last 16 of the recent Cincinnati Masters.
In that event he defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets and he should have enough to win without dropping a set against his Hungarian counterpart.
Ben Shelton to win 3-0 vs Dominic Thiem @ 5/6
Ben Shelton is one of a number of Americans looking to make his mark in the Big Apple in the next couple of weeks and he can open with a comfortable win against Dominic Thiem.
Thiem was the US Open champion back in 2020 – his only Grand Slam title to date – but he has since failed to go past the second round in the major.
The 30-year-old looks past his best on the ATP tour and that was emphasised by the fact he was knocked out in the first round of the Austrian Open on home turf in July.
As for 13th seed Ben Shelton, he reached the last four of the US Open in 2023 and is fresh from a quarter-final run in Cincinnati, so back him to win this 3-0.
Amanda Anisimova to beat Qinwen Zheng @ 7/5
Amanada Anisimova has her best years ahead of her and she can make an impact at this season’s US Open, starting with a first-round win over Qinwen Zheng.
Anisimova’s power and big serve makes her well-suited to the hard courts and she could flummox Zheng, who has struggled with the transition to the harder surface.
Zheng won gold on the clay courts in Paris but underwhelmed in Cincinnati earlier this month, losing to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the last 16.
Anisimova, meanwhile, has been keen to get hard-court game time under her belt in the build up to this tournament, reaching the final of the women’s National Bank Open in Toronto, and she looks overpriced to prevail.
