The US Open has reached the quarter-final stage and the New York crowd could have plenty to cheer about with home hopes Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz and Emma Navarro all in action on day eight.

Fritz takes on Alexander Zverev in the pick of the men’s matches while WTA Tour no.2 Aryna Sabalenka bids for a place in the women’s semi-finals when she faces Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng.

Frances Tiafoe to beat Grigor Dimitrov @ 5/4

Frances Tiafoe has claimed the scalps of Ben Shelton and Novak Djokovic’s conqueror Alexei Popyrin to reach the quarter-finals and the American can keep his title hopes alive with a win over Grigor Dimitrov.

There is little between them in the betting and both have been in excellent form but Tiafoe, in particular, has caught the eye with a run to the Cincinnati Open final followed by some big wins in New York.

While Dimitrov leads 3-1 in their head-to-head meetings, Tiafoe won their only hard-court Slam clash in Australia in 2019.

Taylor Fritz to beat Alexander Zverev @ 5/4

Tiafoe could be joined in the semi-finals by fellow American Taylor Fritz, who can down Alexander Zverev to reach the last four of a Grand Slam for the first time.

The Californian, a champion at Indian Wells in 2022, has taken time to become a contender in Slams but he is consistently going deeper in draws and has looked assured in New York so far, easing past Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Matteo Berrettini and Francisco Comesana before recovering from a set down to beat Casper Ruud last time out.

Zverev has had a fine season but he’s not been entirely convincing in the tournament so far and Fritz, who has won three of their last five meetings, could cause him major problems.

Paula Badosa to beat Emma Navarro @ 3/4

While Fritz and Tiafoe look on course to reach the semi-finals, Emma Navarro could find life tougher when she faces Paula Badosa in the bottom half of the women’s draw.

Navarro is steadily improving and a Grand Slam victory might not prove beyond her in time but she remains inexperienced at the top level and, in Badosa, she faces a resurgent former world no.2 who looks to have rediscovered the spark in recent months.

Aryna Sabalenka to win 2-0 against Qinwen Zheng @ 4/5

Aryna Sabalenka and Qinwen Zheng meet in a repeat of the Australian Open final and, as was the case in Melbourne in January, it could be one-way traffic in favour of Sabalenka.

The 26-year-old bulldozed her way past Zheng at this stage in last year’s US Open, winning 6-1 6-4, then she was similarly dominant in winning down under, claiming a 6-3 6-2 victory.

Zheng has since gone on to win Olympic gold but this is not a good time for a rematch with Sabalenka, who has dropped just one set in winning her last nine matches, claiming the WTA Western & Southern Open title in Cincinnati before easing into the last eight in New York.
