The English Premier League has extended its sports betting data agreement with Genius Sports

The English Premier League has extended its sports betting data agreement with Genius Sports

The next season of the English Premier League (EPL) will start on August 16, 2024. Ahead of that date, the EPL has extended its data rights agreement with Football DataCo. They are the official data rights holder of several football leagues within the UK. This agreement extends the EPL’s official sports betting data partnership with Football DataCo, into 2029. The English Premier League is one of several leagues in which the Football DataCo handles data rights. That also includes the English Football League and the Scottish Professional Football League. Genius Sports CEO Mark Locke had this to say.

Over the last five years, our official data and technology partnership with Football DataCo has been transformational to the growth of Genius Sports,” said Locke. “his renewal underpins our continued business expansion and fuels the trajectory of our medium-term financial outlook. Going forward, we expect the partnership to act as a flywheel to drive further innovation and value for our sportsbook partners.”

Genius Sports has been working with Football DataCo. Since 2019

For the last five years, Genius Sports has served as the Football DataCo.’s exclusive sports betting data provider. They’re responsible for disseminating state from inside the stadium to the partnering sportsbook at an extremely rapid pace. Genius’ press release noted that their data feed can send low-latency data to hundreds of licensed sportsbooks across the globe. The new agreement between the EPL and Genius Sports will cover more than 4,000 matches per season. With the agreement, Genius is responsible for providing partnering sportsbooks with player market data. This will cover numerous props like assists, pass completions, and the number of shots on target.

Additionally, Genius will continue to provide AI-powered tracking technology to the three English Football Leagues. Last summer, Genius made a deal with the FDC to supply the English Football League with sophisticated player-tracking data. The Premier League first started receiving data from Genius in 2020. In March 2020, Genius Sports’ biggest rival, Sportsradar, filed a lawsuit against the company. They claimed Genius violated European Union and U.K. competition laws. Genius did this by preventing the company from collecting and disseminating data on league matches. The EPL’s next season officially begins on August 16 and there will be nine matches on opening weekend.
