Around 30 firefighters and additional emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly before midday. Visible flames and smoke were seen emerging from the building’s roof.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded with eight fire trucks and specialized teams to the fire, which was deemed “well alight” and was put out by 5:30 PM. Closures were implemented on Union Street, Summer Street, Union Wynd, and Little Chapel Street.

Yesterday evening, the owners of PB Devco posted on social media to inform their patrons that the restaurant would remain closed indefinitely.

They commented: “Following a major incident at Vovem, whereby thankfully all of our team were successfully evacuated, we are sad to inform our customers that we are closed for business until further notice,” the firm said.

“Due to the devastating damage to our venue, our team is working closely with the relevant parties.

“Please be patient whilst our management team works through our bookings and they will be in touch in due course. If you do have any booking queries, please get in touch on [email protected].

“Thank you for your understanding at this time and we hope to bring you some positive news soon.”
