Try Unibet’s New Smartview Racecards Mares’ Hurdle: Runner by runner guide

Having been spoilt over the Christmas period with top-class horse racing action, we now enter a lull in the horse racing calendar in the UK.

However, this Listed mares hurdle is one of the more interesting races this Saturday, as Clive Boultbee-Brooks looks to take a step up the horse racing ladder with the improving Della Casa Lunga.

Can Clive bag a big Saturday win, or will the well-established stables scupper him?

Now it’s time to take an in-depth look into runners of the Listed Try Unibet’s New Smartview Racecards Mares’ Hurdle and the best horse racing bookmakers to help you make a winning bet.

🏇 3 Della Casa Lunga

  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 11st 4lb
  • Form: 1-P621
  • Rating: 138
  • Jockey: Richard Patrick
  • Trainer: Clive Boultbee-Brookes
  • Odds: 9/4

Having started the season with a whimper when well behind Aston Martini at Bangor, the change to front-running tactics, step back up in trip, and wind surgery seemed to have brought a sudden jolt of improvement from Della Casa Lunga.

The manner of her win was dominant at Kempton, but the fear is that she may not have such an easy time on the front end here.

That was her second win over three miles, and now she is dropping back in trip, which is not ideal considering how impressive she was at Kempton.

She has a standout chance on ratings, but her chance of winning hinges on whether she can show that improved form back down in trip, and if she can get away on the front end, which she may not be handed the luxury of doing today with others likely to pester her on the lead.

She is the worthy favourite, but at the prices, Della Casa Lunga is there to be taken on.

✅ A good winner last time out
✅ Showed the benefit of wind surgery

❌ Drop down in trip isn’t ideal
❌ Will be taken on for the lead

🏇 1 Aston Martini

  • Age: 6
  • Weight: 11st 4lb
  • Form: 114-20
  • Rating: 123
  • Jockey: Nico de Boinville
  • Trainer: Nicky Henderson
  • Odds: 4/1

It’s fair to say that Aston Martini left a win behind at Bangor when she was two lengths clear coming to the last, only for her to slightly jink at the last, causing Nico de Boinville to come unbalanced and lose his reigns, eventually getting overhauled by Might I up the run in.

She dropped back to two miles at Newbury for her next outing, but she could never get seriously involved. However, she did stay on well, having dropped to the rear.

The step back up in trip and the drop to a less competitive field should paint Aston Martini in a much better light here.

She is very lightly raced, having only raced five times over hurdles, winning two.

She has a lot to find on ratings, but she has already shown that she is capable of being much better than her current mark.

Given the resurgence of the Nicky Henderson stable, Aston Martini has the most potential for improvement here and interests me the most.

✅ Step back up in trip
✅ Lightly raced

❌ Well beaten over course and distance last season

🏇 2 Dameofthecotswolds

  • Age: 5
  • Weight: 11st 4lb
  • Form: 421211
  • Rating: 129
  • Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
  • Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies
  • Odds: 9/2

It took Dameofthecotswolds ten goes to get off the mark over hurdles, but since her breakthrough win, she has taken her form to new heights.

A second to Rockstown Girl was followed by back-to-back wins in class 4 and class 3 hurdles.

She made a shuttering mistake last time out but still managed to gather herself and win by eight lengths.

Even though she has raced 15 times in her career already, this five-year-old looks to be only getting started.

Very soft ground would be a slight concern, but this mare could be hard to pass if she jumps the last in the lead.

✅ Has won three of her last four
✅ On the improve

❌ Has had a lot of racing in the past 12 months
❌ All her wins have been on good or good/soft going

Star rating: ⭐️⭐⭐⭐

🏇 4 Georgi Girl

  • Age: 6
  • Weight: 11st 4lb
  • Form: 106-15
  • Rating: 129
  • Jockey: Ben Jones
  • Trainer: Philip Hobbs & Johnson White
  • Odds: 5/1

Georgi Girl comes in here on top of her game after a win on her seasonal return and then a creditable fifth, beaten just over four lengths behind Wodhooh at Cheltenham’s December meeting.

She comes here with a winning course from last season when she beat Douglas DC by 19 lengths over two miles.

Given she likes to be held up, connections will be happy to see the likelihood of a strong gallop for Georgi Girl.

If she can back up that fine run at Cheltenham, and they go off at a good gallop, this can set up nicely for Gorgi Girls’ running style.

There is very little not to like about Georgi Girl here; she is another with a realistic winning chance.

✅ Course winning form
✅ In good form since her comeback

❌ Wouldn’t want this to be tactical

🏇 6 The Lord Maid

  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 11st 4lb
  • Form: 5311-2
  • Rating: 126
  • Jockey: Gavin Sheehan
  • Trainer: Tom Lacey
  • Odds: 8/1

Having finished third to Maughreen in an Irish bumper and following that up with an impressive maiden hurdle win at Clonmel, Tom Lacy wasted little time in acquiring the services of The Lord Maid.

They didn’t have to wait long for her to start paying back her new connections as she got off to a winning start in a novice hurdle in April.

On her reappearance last November, she found the reposing Georgi Girl over two lengths too good for her on the day.

She is more than entitled to come on for that run, but given the sustained improvement shown by Georgi Girl at Cheltenham, there was no real way she could get the better of her old rival here, even given that she meets her on better terms today.

She’s not out of this, but The Lord Maid should find one or two too good here.

✅ Has won on heavy ground
✅ Two from three over hurdles

❌ Has been beaten by Georgi Girl

🏇 5 Good Look Charm

  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 11st 4lb
  • Form: 4486-1
  • Rating: 120
  • Jockey: Sean Bowen
  • Trainer: Anthony Honeyball
  • Odds: 14/1

Even with a good course and distant win under her belt last time out, Good Look Charm will need every bit of Sean Bowen’s brilliance to get involved in the finish today. And given that she will likely be involved in a pace battle, it doesn’t add to her limited appeal.

It wouldn’t be a shock if she were to get involved, given her course and distance win last time, but at her age, she has a lot to find on the figures.

She can run well for a long way but will likely struggle at the business end.

✅ Course and distance winner
✅ No ground concerns

❌ Has it to find on figures with the leading players

Star rating: ⭐️⭐

Listed Try Unibet’s New Smartview Racecards Mares’ Hurdle verdict

This is as tight of a listed mares hurdle as you will find this season in the UK, but I want to give the lightly raced ASTON MARTINI another chance to show she can make up for her fumble at Bangor. Dameofthecotswold and Georgi Girl can prove the biggest dangers.

Current Betting: Della Casa Lunga 9/4, Aston Martini 4/1, Dameofthecotswold 9/2, Georgi Girl 5/1, The Lord Maid 8/1, Good Look Charm 14/1.
