Fury ready for revenge?

Tyson Fury will enter the ring on fight night with his professional record showing 34 wins against one defeat and a draw. The level finish on his record came against Deontay Wilder back in 2018 in Los Angeles when many fans thought he had done enough to deserve the win. Fury proved it by beating the Bronze Bomber by stoppage in 2020 and 2021.

Fury now plans to fix the only other blot on his copybook by beating Usyk in their rematch, moving the head-to-head score to one win each and returning as heavyweight champion of the world. Victory in December would also set up a mouth-watering trilogy in 2025. Does the popular 36-year-old have what it takes to bounce back? 

Fury sent out a video on his popular Instagram profile, promising a steam train is coming for Usyk, and the former champion can’t wait to regain his titles. The 6ft 9inch southpaw boxer looked in a confident mood but knows he faces the biggest challenge of his career in dethroning an opponent who unified both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions. Fury must be in peak physical and mental shape and give a career-best performance to stand any chance of returning to the top of professional boxing.

Is Hitman ready to take another shot?

Oleksandr Usyk became the first man to unify the world heavyweight titles in 25 years when beating Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia earlier this year. He won on a split decision, earning the result on two of the three scorecards. The judges sat at ringside in May and tallied the fight 114-113 to Fury and 114-113, 115-112 to Usyk. It was a narrow margin of victory, but most fans believed the right man won, and Usyk now gets the chance to prove it in this rematch.

The champ jets to Saudi Arabia with his professional record detailing 22 wins from as many contests, with 14 of those victories coming inside the distance. He has beaten every opponent placed before him en route to dominating at cruiserweight and heavyweight. Usyk’s hit list already boasts the scalps of Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua, Derek Chisora, and Tony Bellew. He beat AJ twice. Is he about to do the same to Fury?

Usyk often played the support act to Fury in the lead-up to their first fight, but the Ukrainian took centre stage when meeting his rival at a recent press conference. Arriving dressed as the protagonist from the video game series ‘Hitman,’ he encouraged Tyson to sign a photograph of the Englishman hitting the canvas in round nine of their inaugural encounter.

Now we’ve set the scene for December’s rematch, let’s look at the odds, markets, and my betting predictions on Fury vs Usyk 2. Another thrilling contest is expected, but who wins?

Will Fury do what he did against Wilder in their rematch and use his size and strength advantages to win by knockout? Will Usyk’s silky skills prove the difference at the Kingdom Arena?

Here are three picks to consider ahead of fight night.

Fight to last more than 10 rounds

Fury vs Usyk I lasted all 12 rounds and forced the scoring judges to pick their winner, and I don’t expect the rematch to end quickly either.

Each of Fury’s last two fights have gone the distance, taking Francis Ngannou 10 rounds before lasting 12 with Usyk. Going back further, we note four of the challenger’s last five bouts have gone at least 10 rounds. Usyk’s recent form adds weight to our prediction, with four of his previous five lasting the 12-round distance. The spare in that run was an entertaining ninth-round stoppage win over Daniel Dubois last summer.

Back the fight to last at least 10 rounds, and it doesn’t matter which warrior wins or how they get the result. As long as we hear the bell for the start of round 10, you’ve landed a profit.

Fight to last the distance

Sticking with my prediction on this fight to go into the later rounds, I aim for slightly better odds by backing the rematch to go the distance and again be settled by the judges in Riyadh. 

The first meeting was a back-and-forth affair, with Usyk starting well before Fury took over in the middle rounds. The titles were there to be won heading into the home straight, and it was the Ukrainian champion who rallied to ensure victory. I expect something similar in December, with both men enjoying spells of dominance before the fight is determined in the championship rounds by who wants it more and has prepared best.

Usyk to win on points

Shooting for odds worth winning, I’m picking sides for my third and final Fury vs. Usyk bet, advising the champion to win on points. You can find this bet available now at Betfred.

The first fight ended in a split-decision win for Usyk, but most had Oleksandr as their clear winner. Fury enjoyed success in the middle rounds, but Usyk’s boxing ability, speed, range of punches, and fast feet won over the crowd and the judges. He’s a sublime boxer, and it may seem strange to write about a two-weight unified champion, but I think we’ve yet to see the best of him. There’s more to come from Usyk, and he reserves special performances for the big nights.

Usyk will prove too fast and too accurate for Fury, racking up the opening rounds before relying on his speed and fitness to catch the judges’ eye when things get tough in the closing stages. Back Usyk to do the double over Fury with another points win. 

I am a huge Fury fan and would love to see the titles back in Britain, but we’ve seen it’s unwise ever to doubt Usyk. He’s just too good.
