USMNT Copa America History

The USMNT has only been in the Copa America one other time – 2016, when they were also the hosts. They advanced out of a group with Colombia, Costa Rica, and Paraguay, and went onto beat Ecuador in the quarterfinals before falling to Argentina (4-0) in the semifinals and Colombia (1-0) in the third-place game.

The USA and Bolivia have only met twice before, both in friendlies. The US won both games in lopsided fashion without conceding a goal, taking a 4-0 win in May 2016 and a 3-0 victory in May 2018.

Bolivia Recent Results

The Bolivians enter the 2024 Copa in abysmal form, going 2-0-8 in their last ten matches. Their only victories in that span are a 1-0 win over Andorra in Algeria, and a 2-0 win over Peru at home in CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifying. While that win put Bolivia ninth in the ten-team qualifying tournament, Bolivia’s -10 goal differential after just six games is the worst among the ten teams (4 GF, 14 GA).

Bolivia’s last match ended in a 3-0 loss to Colombia in the United States. They were outscored 7-1 in their three Copa warm-ups from March 31 to June 6 against Mexico, Ecuador, and the Colombians.

The Bolivian national team has been on a fairly steady decline over the last six years, dropping from 46th in the world all the way to 84th ahead of the Copa.

USMNT Recent Results

The Copa warm-ups for the USMNT yielded some very different results. They were obliterated 5-1 on home soil by Colombia but responded with an impressive 1-1 draw against Brazile five days later, getting an equaliser from Christian Pulisic in the 26th minute after conceding the opener to Rodrygo in the 17th.

In March, the USA won the CONCACAF Nations League with an impressive 2-0 win over Mexico, also in Arlington. Tyler Adams opened the scoring in the last throes of the first half before Giovanni Reyna added a 63rd-minute insurance marker.

United States vs Bolivia Prediction

This is a very favorable draw for the US, getting CONMEBOL’s only true lower-tier team in their opening match. But United States has only kept a clean sheet in one of its last five matches. Bolivia doesn’t have terribly potent strikers up front, but they also don’t sit back and defend. In their 3-0 loss to Colombia last time out, they generated four shots on target and carried a respectable 40% of possession against a world-class team.

Both teams to score is priced at +150 odds, which is only a 40% implied probability.

USMNT vs Bolivia picks:

  • Both teams to score (+150)
  • First goal up to 15th minute (+190)
