  • USA faces Panama in the second game of group play in the 2024 Copa America tournament.
  • USA won its first game against Bolivia 2-0 behind goals from Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun. Panama lost to Uruguay 3-1.
  • Read below for our picks from Thursday night’s match.

Team USA can all but clinch a spot in the next round of the Copa America tournament with a win over Panama on Thursday night. The match will be played in Atlanta, on a pitch that was criticized by Argentina after the opening match of the tournament against Canada. The USMNT will kick off its game against Panama at 6 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on FOX.

USA vs Panama Predictions

  • USA to win 1st half/full time (+100)
  • USA over 2.5 goals (+105)
  • Both teams to score (+105)

USA shut out Bolivia in the opening match, but Bolivia ranks No. 84 in the FIFA World Rankings. Panama is a much tougher challenge for the No. 11-ranked USMNT, checking in at No. 43 in the world. Still, there’s a big gap in quality. Team USA didn’t have what many considered to be a “great” performance against Bolivia, leaving a lot to be desired.

Still, Christian Pulisic scored in the third minute and Folarin Balogun added a second goal just before halftime. I predict the US will find a groove in this game, settling into the tournament and looking sharp from the opening whistle.

Over at bet365, you can find USA to win the first half and the game for +100 odds. USA to score 3+ goals stands at +105 odds as of June 27. And both teams to score in this match is +105. I like all 3 of those picks. I believe the US will get out to another early lead. They’ll have at least 1 defensive lapse, allowing Panama to score. But at the end of the match, it’ll be a 3-1 USA win, all but sealing a spot in the Copa America knockout round.

Obviously, with 22 players on the pitch at any given time, plus potential substitutes, there are lots of options for goal-scorer props. I only featured a few of the guys with the best odds above. Make sure you check out bet365 for a full listing of goal-scorer props.

You have to scroll down the table quite a way before you find the first Panama player on the list of potential goal scorers. That would be Eduardo Guerrero, who has +1200 odds to score first or last.

If you’re looking for value in the first goal scorer market and don’t want to bet on the favorites, I like Timothy Weah and Weston McKennie as potential options for Team USA. They’re both stalwarts on the team and see the ball a lot. Weah scored for the US as recently as June 8. He scored a goal in a friendly against Colombia to cut the USA deficit to 2-1. That game ended in a 5-1 score against Team USA, but Weah showed he can have his moments of brilliance against quality opponents.
