Wolfsburg vs Dortmund predictions

Wolfsburg will host Borussia Dortmund at the Volkswagen Arena on Matchday 15 of the Bundesliga season.

Only one point separates the two teams after 14 matches, with Wolfsburg on 21 points, and Dortmund on 22.

Wolfsburg is the in-form team. They have won four of their previous five in the Bundesliga, and five of their last six in all competitions. Unfortunately, their run of wins came to an end on Matchday 14, with Die Wolfe losing 3-2 away at Freiburg.

Highlighting the good team spirit Wolfsburg manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has installed in his squad, the Wolves didn’t go down without a fight. Wolfsburg were 3-0 down after 61 minutes. They then launched a late comeback with goals from Jonas Wind and Mattias Svanberg.

It wasn’t enough, though, and Frieburg held on to win an entertaining encounter by the odd goal.

Ralph Hasenhuttl only took charge of the team in March of the 2023/24 season, achieving his first aim of Bundesliga survival in his opening few weeks in his new job. Hasenhuttl led the Wolves to 12th in the table with 37 points, four above the relegation play-off position.

Things are going a lot better this season. The team is continuing to progress under the leadership of the former Southampton and Leipzig boss. They look on course to be pushing for a place in Europe, rather than being involved in a relegation dogfight.

Included in their recent five-match winning run was a 5-1 away win over Hasenhuttl’s former club RB Leipzig on Matchday 12 of the Bundesliga. And Die Wolfe also progressed to the quarter-final of the DFB-Pokal, with a 3-0 win over Hoffenheim in the Round of 16.

As for their opponents Dortmund, they are enduring a difficult season in the Bundesliga.

The Yellow and Black are well off the pace for a top-four finish and a guaranteed place in the Champions League for next season.

But in Europe’s elite competition, things are going better, with Dortmund sitting ninth in the Champions League group, just one place and one point outside of automatic qualification for the Round of 16.

Nuri Sahin is the current Dortmund head coach. Sahin stepped up to the main role from assistant after previous head coach Edin Terzic left the club in the wake of their 2024 Champions League final defeat.

Things haven’t gone totally to plan for the former Dortmund midfielder this season, meaning Sahin has found himself under pressure in his new role.

Dortmund’s home form has been fine. They have won six from eight – although, they have drawn their last two. And as we know, they are also doing well in Europe.

But on the road, domestically, Dortmund has been awful. They have picked up only two points from a possible 18. And this is where Sahin hasn’t been able to find the solution.

Furthermore, Dortmund has only won one of their last five in the Bundesliga, and one of their last five in all competitions. To put some context into that, they held Bayern to a 1-1 draw at Signal Iduna Park in the Bundesliga, and one of the defeats was at home to Barcelona in the Champions League.

Wolfsburg vs Dortmund betting tips

Despite the defeat to Freiburg, there is plenty for Wolfsburg and Ralph Hasenhuttl to be happy about this season. The team is scoring plenty of goals and they look on track to beat their points tally from the previous campaign.

The same can’t be said for Borussia Dortmund. They have drawn their last three in the Bundesliga, and head coach Nuri Sahin is yet to register an away win in the league this season.

We can see that winless run continuing against Wolfsburg. But we can see Dortmund leaving with a share of the spoils. More Wolfsburg v Dortmund betting tips can be found below:

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals

Wolfsburg has scored 2+ goals in 5 of their last 6 matches in all competitions. The Wolves have also conceded in four of their last five league matches, including six in their last two.

The goals have dried up slightly for Dortmund in their last three in the Bundesliga. They have only managed one in each match.

But overall, Dortmund has scored in their last nine matches in all competitions. Wolfsburg are conceding goals for fun, and they could be the ideal team to get the goals flowing for the Yellow and Blacks again.

Jamie Gittens to score or assist

Jamie Gittens has been in good form for Nuri Sahin’s team in recent weeks. The 20-year-old Englishman has scored three goals and provided one assist in his last four Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund.

Throw in the Champions League, and he has four goals and one assist in his last six in all competitions.

We’re expecting an open match between the Wolves and Dortmund. So we expect there to be plenty of opportunities for Gittens to add to his Bundesliga season-tally of five goals and three assists.

Jonas Wind to score last

Jonas Wind has been finding the net regularly for Wolfsburg in recent weeks with three goals in his last two matches.

In Wolfsburg’s 4-3 win over Mainz, Wind emerged from the bench at the start of the second half and scored an 83rd-minute equaliser, followed by a 94th-minute winner.

In the following match away to Frieburg, Wind again came on for the second half, this time pulling one back for his team after 75 minutes.

Wind scored last against Mainz, and second-last against Freiburg. As he is starting on the bench, his goals are coming late in matches.

Wind is 2/1 to find the net at any time. That is a good bet if he starts the match. If he is on the bench, a bet on Wind to score last at 7/1 looks worth a small wager.
