Wolverhampton Wanderers versus Newcastle United is the Super Sunday clash this week and the home side will be hoping they can do better at home than they did last time out (4.30pm, Sky Sports Premier League).
Gary O’Neill’s side were thrashed 6-2 by Chelsea in their only other home game of the season so far. They went in 2-2 at the break before completely capitulating in the second half conceding four, including a 14-minute hat-trick by Noni Madueke.
They did manage to come from behind in their last match prior to the international break to take their first point of the season at Nottingham Forest, but they will want to give their fans a better showing at Molineux.
Newcastle go into the game unbeaten following wins over Tottenham and Southampton and a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth which leaves them fifth in the Premier League table.
Wolves have conceded nine in the league so far, second only to Everton who have shipped 10 in their opening three games and sit rock bottom of their league.
It’s hard to see anything but a Newcastle win in this one and betting sites seem to agree with a home victory a best-price of 12/5, while the visitors are 23/20 to make it three wins from four this season.
Wolves vs Newcastle betting preview: Magpies to soar above lowly Wolves
History favours a draw in this fixture but with the goals the home side have shipped so far, it’s hard to see them scoring enough to share the points.
Seven of the last nine meetings in Wolverhampton between these two sides have ended all square, while seven of the last 11 in total have finished in a draw – all score draws too.
Both teams have scored in all nine of the Premier League meetings at Molineux which makes it the most played specific fixture in the competition to never see a clean sheet.
In fact, 61 per cent of the Premier League meetings between the sides have finished as a draw (11 out of 18) but it will be a tough ask for O’Neil’s side on Sunday.
The visitors have only failed to score in one of their last 23 Premier League games, a 2-0 away loss to Crystal Palace in April, while no current side is on a longer run of Premier League games without a clean sheet than Wolves (15).
Newcastle have faced more shots than any other side in the league this season (54), with an average of 18 shots faced per game, so Wolves will have their own chances to score.
There’s a strong argument just to back both teams to score on football betting sites in this one, but the fragility of Wolves’ defence could tip the balance of the game in the favour of an efficient Newcastle attack that’s bagged four goals from nine shots on target.

Wolves vs Newcastle tips: Newcastle duo to have their shooting boots on
When looking at the hundreds of specials available for the match, this one jumped out: Joelinton to have more than two shots and Alexander Isak to have over four, which is available at 12/1 with William Hill. They don’t have to be shots on target either.
A quick look at the player stats shows that Joelinton has so far managed three shots, two on target and one goal in his three appearances, while Isak has had eight shots, two on target, scored one goal and recorded one assist.
That does mean Joelinton needs to match his season output so far in one game, of course.
The duo have looked sharp right from the off this term and may see their fair share of chances.
Wolves vs Newcastle prediction 2: Joelinton over 2 shots & Alexander Isak over 4 shots – 12/1 William Hill
Wolves vs Newcastle tips: Isak to make the headlines again
Isak has become a real fan favourite since arriving in the north-east from Real Sociedad in 2022 and it’s hardly surprising when he has scored 36 goals in 71 appearances for Newcastle.
In the Premier League alone he has managed 32 goals in 55 games and assisted a further four goals.
He has been directly involved in 18 goals in his last 20 Premier League appearances (15 goals, 3 assists), dating back to Boxing Day last year.
In the same time period, only Man City’s Erling Haaland (20) and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (17) have scored more than the Swede (15) in the league.
