2025 Women’s Premier League
The Women’s Premier League is a cricket tournament known in short as the WPL was created in 2022 to replace the Women’s T20 Challenge and is the women’s equivalent of the Indian Premier League.
The league was set up to have its inaugural season in 2023 with five teams competing who have now taken part in both of the first two tournaments.
The current situation is that two venues are decided upon to be used during the season, in 2023 they were in Mumbai & Navi Mumbai and then in 2024 they were in Bengaluru & Delhi.
WPL Teams
- Delhi Capitals
- Gujarat Giants
- Mumbai Indians
- Royal Challengers Bengaluru
- UP Warriorz
WPL Format
The league has been set up to mirror the IPL with the exception of the number of teams, five teams play against each other in a double round-robin format which means each team plays eight matches.
The team which finished top during the league stage advances straight to the final whilst the teams in second and third compete in an elimination match to see which other team heads to the final.
It is hopeful that the tournament will be expanded in the near future with more franchises resulting in a longer tournament and more matches.
